The Full day tour starts with the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill in the morning, and the Vatican museums, the Sistine Chapel and Saint Peter's basilica in the afternoon.

Our journey will start with the Colosseum, also known as the world’s biggest amphitheater. UNESCO has added it in the list of the “World Heritage”: its construction started in 72 A.C. and ended 8 years later. It could contain between 50 and 75 thousand spectators, and was used until 523 A.C.
Your tour guide will tell you about the different techniques used to build it and he will introduce you to the Gladiators' world, the famous fighters who used to duel in the arena: it appears that this type of fighting started in ancient Greece in order to celebrate private memorial services and the Romans transformed them in acclaimed public shows. The Colosseum day type was split in three sections: fights between men and animals in the morning, execution of criminals at lunch time, gladiator fights in the afternoon.
Our tour will go on through every details: from the organization to the social and economical aspects. In particular they will introduce you all types of gladiators: they used to be around 30 types and each one of them used the roman emperor’s military fighting techniques.

Next stop is
Palazzo dei Cesari, on the Palatine Hill. This is where the word “Palatium” (building) comes from. You will be taken to see the ruins of the Domus Augustana and then the paintings of Nero's first building: the only ones that were saved after the arson that took place in 64 A.C.

Our tour ends with a visit to the Roman Forum,
originally a necropolis, later transformed in the heart of Rome with temples, cathedrals, the Popes' Curia and Domus.

- Lunch Break –

The tour continues the afternoon with the Vatican Museums, where since 1503 the pontiffs have collected all the pieces of art throughout several years. We will start from the Picture Gallery, with Raffaello’s artworks (I cartoni degli arazzi, La Trasfigurazione),  Leonardo da Vinci's (San Girolamo), Caravaggio's (La deposizione di Cristo), Giotto's (Il trittico Stefaneschi), just to name some of the most famous ones. You will then go though the spectacular Cortile della Pigna and the Cortile del Belvedere, passing by the Animal’s Gallery, to join the Muse's Room (Torso del Belvedere), to finish in the famous Circle Room. You will then pass by the Greek Cross Room, in order to admire Saint Helen's and Saint Constance sarcophagus. You will go through the Sala della Biga and continue throughout several galleries: the Candelabra gallery, the Galleria degli Arazzi, the Map's Gallery. Furthermore, you'll reach the Pius V's Room and moreover the Sobieskj Room, which is the Immaculate Conceptions' room. Finally you'll  arrive to Raffaello's Rooms: four rooms frescoed by the master painter D'Urbino, started in 1508. You will then visit the Borgia's family rich apartments who was known for it's power among society and its violence. Finally you’ll arrive to the famous Sistine Chapel : it has been entirely frescoed by Michelangelo and represents a spectacular place that you would never want to leave.

Our tour will carry on to Saint Peter's basilica by passing in front of the famous Porta Santa. Saint Peter's was  built between 1506 and 1626 : an interminable construction site! By the way, a big amount of travertine  (used to build the Colosseum) has become a part of  Saint Peter's  building material. The construction started with Pope Julius II in 1506, who asked Italian artist Bramante to destroy the original Constantine Cathedral  in order to  build a new one with the Greek cross plan. Inside the church you'll admire the renowned  Michelangelo's La Pietà  and Bernini's baldacchino : the statue made by Arnolfo di Cambio in honor of Saint Peter.
Furthermore, you will see the Vatican's cavern where the Popes' tombs are located.

The tour will finally end in Piazza San Pietro with its marvelous  Bernini columns, a symbol of the embracement between the church and the christian world. You will admire  Saint Peter's dome, created by Michelangelo, and  the balcony where the Pontiff gives the blessings. Here you will see Sistine Chapel's roof  where the white or black smoke comes out from in case of the new Pope's election  and the famous obelisk  in the middle of the square.
